Lane Cove stabbing: Reason behind horror Sydney stabbing

POLICE allege that a 33-year-old man asked his dad for a lift from their home on Sydney’s north shore before launching a frenzied stabbing attack.

Emergency services rushed to the affluent suburb of Lane Cove at 7.20am yesterday morning and found a 58-year-old bleeding heavily from the back of his head and his upper left thigh.

Now, police allege the victim was attacked by his own son, who “snapped” after asking for a lift.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Jones told reporters that officers found the father suffering numerous wounds on the back of his head and a stabbing injury on his upper left leg.

“As a result of first aid being rendered to that male, it was established that there was a domestic incident between the father and his son,” he said.

“I think it is basic incident in relation to providing a lift to a different location, away from the residence.”

Then “for whatever reason”, the son snapped and allegedly assaulted his father, Chief Insp Jones added.

The accused is due in a Sydney court today, after police charged him with stabbing his father in the head and thigh.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition after he was found with stab wounds in Lane Cove North at 7.20am on Tuesday.

A 33-year-old man was arrested nearby about 12.30pm after a search by police, the Dog Unit and PolAir.

He will appear in Hornsby Local Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause severe harm and contravening an apprehended violence order.
